Some young men and the experience of erection problems dysfunctionerectile erectile dysfunction, drugs without prescription.

So says an anonymous survey of 234 men aged 18-25 at three universities in Chicago. The researchers included Najah Senno Musacchio, MD, of Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago.

The results, presented in San Francisco at the Pediatric Academic Societies annual meeting, including:

95% of participants were heterosexual, two-thirds were white.
13% said they had difficulty obtaining or maintaining an erection.
25% reported ever losing an erection while putting on a condom.

The study does not show the number of times the men had problems with impotence.

Erection, erectile dysfunction drug
Here are more details about the participants who said they had problems with impotence:

Only 1 in 29 of those discussed erectile problems with a doctor.
Participants who had never had an erectile problem were more likely to have had a sexually transmitted disease (STD) and more than 5 partners in the past year.
Men who have lost their erection while condoms were more likely to use condoms inconsistently.

The survey also shows that 14 men (6% of all participants) using erectile dysfunction (ED) drug. Most of these men have ED drugs from friends or other non-medical sources, such as the Internet. An ED drugs obtained from a physician, the study shows.

Behavior Risk
More than half of the men who noted ED reported using drugs to treat their erection problems. Another 29% said that the drugs used to improve sexual performance, "write the researchers.

ED young drug users were more likely to have had an STD and who have already had erection problems, the study shows.

Nearly two-thirds of those who have used drugs reported ED ED mixing drugs with other drugs - alcohol, marijuana, depressants GHB, methamphetamine and cocaine - that "enhance libido and reduce inhibitions, but decreases the sexual performance" , write the researchers.

Combining ED drugs with alcohol or other drugs "allows men to altered states likely to have sex, which can contribute to unwanted pregnancies and the spread of sexually transmitted diseases," write Musacchio and colleagues.

That young men commonly reported erectile problems - and rarely told medical workers about the problems - advise investigators of health workers to start the conversation, asking about erectile problems, stressing the risks of the mixture of drugs ED with drugs or alcohol, and the need D 'Using condoms in all sexual relations.
